Overview of the Cosmetology programs and the admissions process
Associate's and Diploma Degrees
A-B Tech offers associate's degree and diploma programs in Cosmetology. The curriculum includes classroom study and hands-on fundamentals. Cosmetology students gain practical experience under the direction of College faculty in the Mountain Tech Spa, an on-campus salon located in the Birch Building.
Cosmetology is one of our Limited Programs. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis in the Bailey Student Services Building. For more information about the current application dates, refer to our Selective and Limited Programs webpage. Your first step will be to complete a general application to the College. You should also complete placement by taking the NC-DAP/Accuplacer placement test or bringing a college transcript showing previous college credit in English and math. (The associate's degree program requires placement in English and math; the diploma program requires placement only in English.)
Cosmetology Instructor Program
We also offer a Cosmetology Instructor Certificate program. This is a program for currently-licensed cosmetologists to learn the skills to teach Cosmetology, as required by the North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Arts. It's a limited admissions program that accepts students on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information about this program or to check on the next start-date, contact Tambra Luppino, Chairperson of Spa Therapies and Operations, at (828) 398-7674 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
