GE Aviation Training Facility

GE Aviation Training Facility

Summary

Overview of the GE Aviation training facility in the Advanced Manufacturing Center/Maple Building and whom to contact for more information

Overview

A-B Tech has worked with GE Aviation to create a training center for current and prospective GE Aviation employees to train in a hands-on environment with state-of-the-art machinery.

GE Aviation is building a manufacturing facility in Asheville, which will be the first in the world to mass-produce ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) for airplane production. These composite materials will be lighter and more heat resistant, greatly increasing airplane fuel efficiency.

The training program develops skills needed to read technical documents, use precision gauges and quality procedures, and create composite materials. It also addresses Lean Manufacturing processes, business management, and financial information.

Andy McNeal, who has had a long career in aviation and aircraft maintenance, is the lead Aviation Composite Instructor.

Location

The training facility is on the first floor of the Advanced Manufacturing Center/Maple Building (#15 on our campus map) on the Asheville Campus.
