Requirements to enroll at A-B Tech and options for students who don't have a high school diploma or GED/high school equivalency
In order to take curriculum classes (for college credit) at A-B Tech, you must either have a high school diploma/GED or be at least 18 years old. If you're 18 or older and do not have a high school diploma or GED, you are encouraged to contact our Career Services department at careerservices@abtech.edu to discuss your options.
There is no minimum high school or prior college GPA required to enroll. There may be additional enrollment steps for non-US citizens.
Most Continuing Education classes do not require you to have a high school diploma or GED. Students under 18 cannot register for Continuing Education classes online. Continuing Education students must be at least 16 by the time a class starts in order to register for a class. Students who are 16 and 17 years old must have a minor permission form on file to register for Continuing Education classes.
Having a high school degree or GED is a requirement for some of our Selective and Limited Programs at A-B Tech. Refer to the application criteria packets for the individual programs on the Selective and Limited Programs page for details.
If you're under 18 and currently in high school, you may be able to take curriculum classes at A-B Tech as a dual-enrolled high school student. For more information about dual-enrollment options, go to abtech.edu/ccp.
If you don't have a high school diploma or GED and want to take curriculum classes at A-B Tech, we encourage you to consider earning your GED through A-B Tech. For more information, contact our Department of Transitional Studies (formerly known as the GED office) at (828) 398-7433 or adulted@abtech.edu.
