Overview of financial aid eligibility, application process, and disbursement dates for the summer semester
There are many factors involved in determining your eligibility for financial aid in the summer. Therefore, students seeking to discuss their summer aid eligibility should contact our Financial Aid Office directly.
Beginning with summer 2018, there are significant changes to the rules for Pell Grant eligibility in the summer. Please contact our Financial Aid Office directly to see if you may be eligible to receive Pell Grant funds in the summer.
If you have remaining eligibility for a Direct Loan after the fall and/or spring semesters, you can request a Direct Loan for the summer semester. As in the fall and spring semesters, you must attend at least six credit hours to receive any Direct Loan funds in the summer.

Financial aid awarded by the state, such as the North Carolina Community College Grant (NCCCG) and North Carolina Educational Lottery Scholarship (NCELS), is not available during summer semesters.
The process for receiving a federal Pell Grant award in the summer is the same as in the fall and spring semesters. To receive Pell Grant funds in the summer, you need to complete a FAFSA at fafsa.gov, for the correct academic year (the same as the previous fall and spring), and complete any additional verification steps the Financial Aid Office has requested that you complete.
To apply for any summer loan funds for which you may be eligible, you must have completed a Master Promissory Note, Entrance Counseling, and the Financial Aid Matters Information Session during the academic year. After completing those steps, and after you have been awarded a loan for the academic year, you do not need to complete any other steps unless you would like to decline or reduce the amount of the loan. If you do, submit a Direct Loan Adjustment Form for the correct academic year, which can be obtained from the Financial Aid Forms & Resources page.
If and when your summer aid is awarded, you will receive an email notification to your A-B Tech student email account. You'll also be able to see your award amount in your Financial Aid Self-Service.
If you have a financial aid award in place for summer, you are making Satisfactory Academic Progress, and you have not received any additional email notifications to your student email account about needing to pay tuition charges, you do not need to take any steps to pay for your classes before the summer tuition payment deadline. Your financial aid will be automatically disbursed and applied to your account balance after your attendance has been recorded in your classes.
The specific date(s) your financial aid is disbursed depends on your summer class schedule, number of credit hours, and other factors. For additional details about refund disbursements and when your summer aid is likely to be disbursed, refer to the Dates & Deadlines page and select the link for the correct semester.
