Financial Aid for Part-Time Students

Financial Aid for Part-Time Students

Summary

Financial aid available to students enrolled less than full-time

Overview

You do not have to be a full-time student to receive aid; however, the amount you qualify for will be reduced if you are less than full-time. For financial aid purposes, full-time status means taking 12 or more credit hours in a semester to receive the full amount of a Pell Grant. To receive the full amount of a North Carolina Community College Grant, you need to take at least 15 credits in the semester. To be eligible for loans, you must take at least six credits in the semester.

For more specific information about how much financial aid you'll receive if you attend less than full-time, please contact our Financial Aid Office directly by emailing financialaidoffice@abtech.edu.

Attending Two Schools at Once

If you're enrolled at another school and would like to take some classes at A-B Tech to transfer back to your main school, you may be able to combine the hours at both institutions for financial aid purposes. It's possible to receive financial aid under these circumstances as long as certain requirements are met.

To apply, you'll need to speak with the Financial Aid Office of your main school (the school where you already receive financial aid) to see if you're eligible for what's called a "Consortium Agreement" with A-B Tech. If you are eligible, please submit any required paperwork to A-B Tech's Financial Aid Office. Please be sure to follow the Financial Aid Document Submission Policy when submitting paperwork.

If you are enrolled at A-B Tech and wish to take classes at another school to transfer back to A-B Tech, you will need to pay for classes out-of-pocket. A-B Tech is no longer able to set up Consortium Agreements for students attending A-B Tech as their main school.
