Academic Warning, Probation, and Suspension

Summary:

Overview of Academic Warning, Probation, and Suspension

Academic Standing Policy

Detailed information about Academic Standing is available at: www.abtech.edu/a-b-tech-catalog/academic-procedures/standards-academic-progress.

Academic Warning

Academic Warning means your cumulative GPA does not meet the minimum 2.0. We recommend you meet with your advisor before the next term to discuss your academic progress and develop strategies to bring up your GPA. We also recommend that you complete the "What It Means to be a Successful Student" seminar.

You'll remain on Academic Warning until you enroll in another semester and bring your cumulative GPA up to 2.0. If your cumulative GPA at the end of the next semester is a 2.0 or above, you'll be considered in good academic standing. If it is again below 2.0, you'll be placed on Academic Probation.

Academic Probation

Academic Probation means your cumulative GPA has fallen below 2.0 for two successive semesters. You'll need to meet with your academic advisor in order to retain your class schedule or register for more classes. You'll also be required to attend a "What it Means to Be a Successful Student" seminar.  Academic Probation is posted to your official transcript.

You'll remain on Academic Probation until you enroll in another semester and bring your cumulative GPA up to 2.0 or above. If your cumulative GPA at the end of the semester is a 2.0 or above, you'll be considered in good academic standing; if it is still below 2.0, you'll be placed on Academic Suspension.

Academic Suspension

Academic Suspension means your cumulative GPA has fallen below 2.0 for three successive semesters. If you're on academic suspension, you're not allowed to register for any curriculum courses. You can still take Continuing Education courses. Academic Suspension is posted to your official transcript.

To register for curriculum classes during the next semester at A-B Tech, you'll need to file an Academic Appeal. Appeals will be considered by the Academic Appeals Committee prior to the first day of class for each semester. To file an Academic Appeal, contact the office of the Vice President of Student Services by calling (828) 398-7143.

Academic Suspension lasts for one semester. After a semester has passed, you will be able to register for classes without filing an appeal.
