Types of grants available and eligibility requirements

A federal Pell Grant is a grant for undergraduates from the government that does not have to be repaid if you complete your classes successfully. The specific amount you are awarded is based on a number of factors, including cost of attendance, enrollment status, and financial need.
If you've already earned a bachelor's or graduate degree, you won't be eligible to receive Pell Grants or state grants, but you may be eligible to receive Direct Loans or Federal Work-Study funds.
The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant is a grant from the government for undergraduate students with exceptional financial need who are enrolled at least half-time. Priority is given to students who apply by March 1 for the following academic year.

The North Carolina Community College Grant for Less Than Half-Time Students is available for students who are North Carolina residents and are registered for five or fewer credit hours. If you're enrolled in a certificate program that's ineligible for federal student assistance, you may qualify for these funds. Your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) must be low enough to qualify.
The North Carolina Community College Grant is a grant offered by the state to residents of North Carolina. All students who complete the FAFSA at studentaid.gov are screened for eligibility. Award amounts are determined by the state based upon FAFSA results and enrollment status. You must be enrolled at least half-time in an eligible program, be a North Carolina resident, and not have a baccalaureate degree.
