Summary

Overview of emergency grants and loans, criteria for application, and what the funds will cover

Who Is Eligible to Apply?

Students who are currently taking classes are eligible to apply for emergency funds, since these funds are primarily intended to help students stay in school. Students who are not currently taking classes or who have minimester classes that haven't started yet are not currently eligible to apply for emergency funds.

Emergency Grant Overview 

This program is funded by the A-B Tech Foundation through contributions made by community leaders, faculty, and staff who have designated their gifts to be used for student support. The emergency grant is for sudden and unforeseen circumstances that create a barrier to staying in college. The payment restriction of the grant is normally $250. Payment will be made directly to the vendor.  

An Emergency Grant Criteria

  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher, if a continuing student. 
  • Must be a currently enrolled student 
  • Must have tuition and fees paid unless protected from the payment deadline purge.
  • Must not have used this grant more than once per calendar year (to be verified by Vice President of Student Services office).

Emergency Loan Overview

This program is funded by the A-B Tech Foundation through contributions made by community leaders, faculty, and staff who have designated their gift to be used for student support.  The emergency loan is for sudden and unforeseen circumstances that create a barrier to staying in college.  The payment restriction of a loan is normally $200. Payment will be made directly to the vendor.  This loan, if granted, will be paid back from your financial aid refund. 

Emergency Loan Criteria 

  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher, if a continuing student.
  • Must be a currently enrolled student seeking a certificate, diploma, or degree.
  • Must have tuition and fees paid unless protected from the purge.
  • Must not have used this grant or loan more than once per calendar year. (To be verified by Vice President of Student Services office.)
  • Must have financial aid or VRAP awarded for the current semester.
  • Must be receiving sufficient refund to cover the loan amount below. (To be verified by the Financial Aid Office or Veterans Affairs office.)
  • Must not be currently suspended from federal grant or loan assistance.
