Standards for Academic Progress
Important note: Academic Standing is entirely separate from Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), which is a part of being eligible for financial aid. Your Academic Standing and SAP status are not related.
Academic Warning
Academic Warning means your cumulative GPA does not meet the minimum 2.0. We recommend the following:
- You consult with your assigned Academic Advisor to discuss your academic progress and develop strategies to bring up your GPA
- You participate in the "What It Means to be a Successful Student" seminar
You'll remain on Academic Warning until you enroll in another semester and bring your cumulative GPA up to 2.0. If your cumulative GPA at the end of the next semester is a 2.0 or above, you'll be considered in good academic standing. If it is again below 2.0, you'll be placed on Academic Probation: Level One.
Academic Probation: Level One
Academic Probation: Level One means your cumulative GPA has fallen below 2.0 for two successive semesters. Academic Probation is posted to your official transcript. You and your Academic Program's Dean are notified of the probation status. To assist you in improving your GPA, the following steps are required:
- You must consult with your Academic Advisor before the next semester begins in order to retain your class schedule
- You participate in the "What It Means to be a Successful Student" seminar
- You will be permitted to enroll only in courses for that semester that are approved by your Academic Advisor. Courses may include one or more of the following:
- A limitation on the number of hours attempted
- Registering for developmental courses as needed
- Registering for a repeat of unsuccessful courses
- Referral to other College resources, such as the Financial Aid Office, to receive further guidance
You'll remain on Academic Probation: Level One until you enroll in another semester and bring your cumulative GPA up to 2.0 or above. If your cumulative GPA at the end of the semester is a 2.0 or above, you'll be considered in good academic standing; if it is still below 2.0, you'll be placed on Academic Probation: Level Two.
Academic Probation: Level Two
Academic Probation: Level Two means your cumulative GPA has remained below 2.0 for the next semester of enrollment following being place on Academic Probation: Level One You will be notified by the Vice President for Student Services via your student email and your Academic Program's Dean will also be notified by the Registrar. Academic Probation: Level Two is posted to your official transcript. You will be dropped from classes and blocked from registering for classes until you consult with your academic advisor. Then, you may only enroll in one course in which you previously earned below a “C.” Exceptions to this restriction can only be considered and approved by the Vice President for Instructional Services.
You will be required to consult with a counselor to discuss success strategies. Prior to registration, you must consult with your assigned program advisor and must follow the same steps as a student on Academic Probation: Level One.
Upon successful completion of one course, you will return to Academic Probation: Level One as long as your cumulative GPA is below 2.0.
