Pell Lifetime Eligibility Usage (PLEU)

Pell Lifetime Eligibility Usage (PLEU)

Summary

Overview of Pell Lifetime Eligibility Usage (PLEU) and the maximum amount of Pell Grant a student is eligible to receive

PLEU Limits

Pell lifetime eligibility usage (PLEU) means that you're nearing, or have exceeded, the full amount of Pell Grant the federal government allows you to receive in your lifetime. The amount of federal Pell Grant funds you may receive over your lifetime is limited by federal law to be the equivalent of six years, which is equivalent to 12 full-time semesters. Since the maximum amount of Pell Grant funding you can receive each year is equal to 100%, the six-year equivalent is 600%.

If you're nearing your Pell lifetime limit, you will be sent an email notification to your student email account from the Financial Aid Office. You will need to visit nslds.ed.gov to determine your current percent of Pell usage, and complete the “Pell Lifetime Eligibility Used (LEU) Form” at abtech.edu/financial-aid under “Forms and Resources.”

If you have exceeded  your lifetime eligibility, you will no longer be eligible for the federal Pell Grant or state grants. You may, however, remain eligible for federal Direct Loans, scholarships, and work-study, assuming you meet all other eligibility requirements.

PLEU cannot be appealed.
