Take Classes Without a High School Diploma or GED

How students without a high school diploma or GED can take classes at A-B Tech

In order to take curriculum classes (for college credit) at A-B Tech, you must either have a high school diploma/GED or be at least 18 years old. If you're 18 or older and do not have a high school diploma or GED, you can enroll as a curriculum student by completing a general application to the College, completing New Student Orientation, then meeting with an advisor in the Bailey Student Services Building to discuss your class options.

Most Continuing Education classes do not require you to have a high school diploma or GED. Students under 18 cannot register for Continuing Education classes online. Continuing Education students must be at least 16 by the time a class starts in order to register for a class. Students who are 16 and 17 years old must have a minor permission form on file to register for Continuing Education classes.

Selective and Limited Programs

Only students who have a high school degree or GED can enter into a Selective or Limited Program of study at A-B Tech.

Dual-Enrollment for High School Students

If you're under 18 and currently in high school, you may be able to take curriculum classes at A-B Tech as a dual-enrolled high school student. For more information about dual-enrollment options, go to abtech.edu/ccp.

Obtain GED Through A-B Tech

If you don't have a high school diploma or GED and want to take curriculum classes at A-B Tech, we encourage you to consider earning your GED through A-B Tech. For more information, contact our Department of Transitional Studies (formerly known as the GED office) at (828) 398-7433 or dots@abtech.edu.
