Reason for Financial Aid Disbursement Dates

Explanation

Before A-B Tech can begin taking the steps to process a student's financial aid award, we have to wait until after the 10 percent point of the class. Some colleges and universities (including other community colleges) may release financial aid refunds earlier than A-B Tech.

After the 10 percent point, the Financial Aid Office is provided with the attendance record for each financial aid recipient. The Financial Aid Office then moves forward with processing the student's award with the Business Office, which takes approximately several weeks. Disbursing funds earlier than this would result in overpaying students who did not end up attending class, which would then result in those students having to pay back the financial aid that was disbursed to them.
